Manage service type settings
Service type defaults are suitable for most service types, but administrators can adjust time preferences, note categories, default files, LIVE permissions, or public views from the Settings page.
Follow these steps to go to a service type's Settings page:
Select the Plans page from the top navigation in Services.
Select the ⚙️ settings icon to the right of the service type you want to edit.
Choose Settings from the dropdown.
Important
Any changes you make on this page will affect all plans within the service type.
Service type name
To rename a service type, select the service type's name in the top left to open the editing field.
Time preferences
Set the time preferences for every split team in this service type. Your split team members can choose from these times when setting up their scheduling preferences.
Your service type's time preferences are shown below the service type name. To add or edit time preferences:
Select the Times button in the top left of the service type's Settings page.
Select Add Day to add a new service time as a preference.
Select Save to finish adding that time.
To remove a time preference, hover over that time and select the 🗑️ delete icon.
To edit a time preference, hover over that time and select the ✏️ edit icon.
Keep the following in mind when setting time preferences:
Time preferences apply to every team in this service type, so these times should match your actual service times, not report times or rehearsals.
Make sure that these times have been added to previously created plans where you must schedule split teams.
If you create new plans using a template that has split teams, your time preferences will automatically be added as service times.
Your time preferences determine which service times appear as options when adding needed positions for split teams in templates.
Options
Set the default options and location for this service type.
Frequency - Set how often the plans in this service type will occur. While most services are Weekly, you can choose from other frequency options. Set the frequency to None for events that happen sporadically, such as special events.
Folder - Choose a parent folder for this service type.
Limited File Visibility - Turn limited file visibility on or off. When this setting is enabled, team members can only see files with tags that pertain to their position.
Important
If your service type frequency is set to None, the Copy Times From and Starting On date fields will be grayed out when you create a new plan. You can manually add a service time after making the plan to assign it a date.
Item row colors
You can set up custom item row colors for specific plan item types, which will apply to all plans in the service type.
Select Add to create a new item row.
Select a color for that item row.
Select Save to apply your changes.
Select the ✏️ edit icon next to an existing item row to edit it.
After item row colors are set in the service type's settings, they must be enabled in a plan for you to see them.
Files
If you have regularly used files that must be available on every plan, upload them directly to the service type!
Select Add to upload or link files to this service type. These files will be available in the Files section of every plan in this service type.
Notes
Manage the default categories for item and plan notes in this service type.
Item note categories
Item notes are used to communicate about a specific item in the worship order.
Select Add to create a new category.
Hover over an existing category and select the ✏️ edit icon to edit or delete that category.
Select the six-dot icon next to a category to drag and drop it to a new position. If you have categories that aren't used often, drag them to the Occasionally Used section to hide them when they don't have any content.
Plan note categories
Plan notes can be assigned to specific teams so they are visible to that team by default. You can view all assigned and unassigned notes in the plan.
Select Add to create a new category.
Hover over an existing category and select the ✏️ edit icon to edit or delete that category.
Select the six-dot icon next to a category to drag and drop it to a new position.
Permissions
Choose who can control Services LIVE.
Only editors and administrators can control LIVE by default, but you can select Add to add other people's names to whom you want to give control.
Public view
Anyone can view public plans even if they don't have a Planning Center login. Control which plan elements people can see on the publicly shared plans by selecting/deselecting the options in this section.
General: Choose which item details to include on the public plan.
Item Types: Choose which types of plan items to include on the public plan.
Links: Choose which media platforms to link to for songs and media listed on the public plan.
Tip
You can schedule your public view to automatically go live in Church Center each week by selecting the toggle in the Schedule Publish section.
