Set up a Citizen printer
A Citizen printer can be used with an Android or iOS device via Bluetooth and is intended to be hooked to your belt while the station device is in your hands. Check out the video below to learn how to connect a Citizen printer and print a test label!
Important
Citizen printers cannot connect to a desktop/laptop. If you want to print from a Windows or Mac app station, you can print to another station.
Supported printers and labels
Printers: Citizen CMP-30II BTIUCL or CMP30-LBTIU (discontinued). Citizen has made multiple models of the CMP-30, so make sure you have the exact model number BTIUCL. If the model number is missing any of those letters, the printer will not work with Check-ins.
Labels: 3" x 2" is the supported label size.
Connect to a printer
Use your mobile device's Bluetooth settings to connect it to the Citizen printer, then follow the steps below to set up your printer in the Check-Ins app.
Important
A Citizen printer can only be directly connected to one Check-Ins station at a time; however, another station can print to it if you use the print to another station feature.
Android
On your Android device, ensure that Bluetooth is turned on.
Open the Check-Ins mobile app.
Tap the ⚙️ settings icon in the bottom right corner.
On the Edit Station Settings Key popup, tap Printer Settings below the keypad.
In the Discovered Printers section, tap Printer Setup.
Find your printer in the popup and tap it to set it as the default printer.
If you don't see your printer in the popup, tap Search to scan the area again for discoverable devices.
If prompted to enter a PIN, enter 0000.
iOS
On your iOS device, ensure that Bluetooth is turned on.
Open the Check-Ins app on your device.
Tap the ⚙️ settings icon in the bottom right corner.
On the Edit Station Settings Key popup, tap Printer Settings below the keypad.
In the Printer Selection section, tap Start Discovery.
Tap your printer name in the Printer Discovery page to set it as the default printer.

Print a test label
To make sure your printer is working correctly, send a test print to the printer.
From the Check-Ins app, select the ⚙️ settings icon.
Select Printer Settings in the bottom right corner. (You don't need to enter a station key.)
Select Print Test Label.
Switch a printer's station

Troubleshooting
Here are a handful of common issues and how to fix them. If none of these sound like what's happening with your printer, reach out to our support team for help!
Tip
If you're having trouble connecting your printer to the mobile app, you can open the troubleshooting wizard by tapping Troubleshoot on the printer settings page.
Bluetooth is working slowly
Bluetooth can take some time to make the initial pairing, and it takes longer to send the print command for the tags compared to wireless. Once the printer receives the print command, it takes a full second to print the label.
For optimal performance, keep the station device close to the printer and away from other devices and printers that also use Bluetooth.
Having the printer paired with another device, even if that device is not on, can cause issues. To fix this, unpair the printer from the originally paired device and then pair it with the correct device again.
Printer is making a whirring noise
If your printer makes a whirring noise and shuts off, that's likely due to weak batteries. Replace the batteries even if you're connected to AC power.
Labels are printing without formatting
If your printer prints labels without formatting or in the wrong font, it's likely because the printer has been factory reset and is no longer on the correct configuration. Check-Ins labels need the printer emulation to be CPCL.
To fix this, contact Citizen to reset the printer for CPCL emulation.
Printer is printing blank labels
If the printer is printing blank labels between the labels, re-calibrate the gaps between labels with the laser sensor:
Peel the first two labels off the label roll, but leave the label backing attached to the roll.
Roll it all back up and insert it into the printer.
Press the feed button.
It will advance the two backing slots and one label, and the problem should be fixed.
