Use a foot pedal or keyboard to turn pages

See also:

In Music Stand, you can control page turns, the metronome, and the audio player using a Bluetooth foot pedal or keyboard. Most foot pedals should be compatible without requiring special support or updates to Music Stand.

If you're using iOS, you can also connect a MIDI device to turn pages.

Connect the pedal or keyboard to your device

If you have a compatible foot pedal, follow the instructions included in your foot pedal's manual to connect it to your mobile device. To connect a Bluetooth device, you must enable Bluetooth and pair your device.

  • If you need to plug a USB keyboard or foot pedal into your iPad, you can use the USB to Dock connector included in Apple's iPad Camera Connector Kit, available for about $30 on their online store.

  • For the STOMP Pedal: Go to settings to set up the pedals. Left and Right buttons to the Page Left/Back and Page Right/Forward. Check out this video for more tips on setting up the STOMP pedal.

Configure pedal or keyboard inputs

Once you've connected the pedal or keyboard to your device, you can configure which inputs are assigned to actions in Music Stand.

Tip

If you have paired your Bluetooth pedal with your tablet but are having trouble turning the pages, your pedal may be in the wrong mode or profile. Check your pedal's documentation on how to change the mode in order for your pedal to be able to turn pages in Music Stand.

To configure pedal and keyboard inputs:

  1. Make sure the pedal or keyboard is connected to your device.

  2. Open Music Stand.

  3. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left to open the sidebar.

  4. Tap Settings in the bottom right of the sidebar.

  5. Tap Pedal & Keyboard Input in the Control section.

  6. Tap on the action you want to program.

  7. Trigger the pedal or key to assign it to that action. If your pedal is programmable, it is recommended that you program the down arrow key to "Next Page" and the up arrow key to "Previous Page."

    Important

iPads cannot recognize keys from some input devices, such as page up or page down, because they are not ordinary letters or numbers. To see what keys correspond to your pedals, open the Notes app on your iPad and press the pedals.

Once you configure your pedal, Music Stand will remember those settings the next time you use the app.
